Making Content: Words for AdSense

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><b>Language, Grammar & Spelling</b><br /><br />This is one of the largest areas of non-compliance and rejected sites that we see in the forum (usually the rejections are for a site that "doesn't comply with AdSense policy or Webmaster Guidelines", or it says something like insufficient content; or little to no useful content).  I write about this all the time; constantly ... because it is important, and hopefully if I write about it enough, publishers will get it.<br /><br />Some of these problems are the result of users who choose to write in English, but whose native language isn't English. AdSense supports many other languages, so if your native language is one that is supported (see: <a href="https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/9727?hl=en" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Languages AdSense Supports</a>) then write in your own language. (Visitors who don't read your language can choose to translate it themselves if they need the content).<br /><br />Even more unfortunate (but thankfully rarer) are the people who don't read (illiterate - which doesn't make them stupid or not intelligent. Surprisingly even today when so many resources are available, there are people who cannot read at all, or only a grade 1 or 2 level.)  Without a great deal of help from others, this type of individual wouldn't be able to even come close to a suitable blog (unless purchased, but then they wouldn't be able to update ... that's a whole other issue). No, it doesn't have to be absolutely perfect, but contents that clearly make little sense, or are hard to understand are not the sort of thing advertisers will expect to be paying for. Having a mistake or two in spelling or grammar over the entire site isn't that much of a problem - it happens to all of us, because no one can write perfectly all the time. But having a number of mistakes on every page, and in post titles gives the visitor a pretty bad impression of the quality of content your site provides. That's bad for the advertiser too.<br /><br />If you want to write in a language that you aren't proficient in, you either need to become more proficient (ie: learn more) or you would need pay someone (or ask a trusted family member who is proficient) to correct your content (someone who is a professional translator; someone who speaks/reads/writes in that language from a very young age; someone whose native tongue is that language).<br /><br />As an example of poor execution of the English language ...<br /><blockquote class="tr_bq"><i>On our blog where we disgust the learn skills for head business.</i> </blockquote>(Yeah, that was found on someone's website and no, I'm not going to tell you where.)<br /><br />So what's wrong with that? The person who wrote it probably understands it, and with a little thought most people can figure it out but ... some people would never figure it out, and nobody should have to work that hard to read content anywhere.<br /><br />The first thing of note is the word "disgust" ... say that word out loud. Does it sound like some other word in the English language? Yep. It's confusing to switch tenses in that way. As for "head business", I'm not entirely sure about what they meant, but I could guess that they meant "to own a business/start a business" (to be the head of a business either makes you the owner or manager or CEO), but it's a guess and would have to be based on the rest of the content on the page.<br /><br />All of that, just to understand what one sentence means. If you were paying for ads on that person's website ... would you really want to pay for them?<br /><br />For some publishers, writing in English is simply worse than writing in their own language.  I do give people credit for trying if it's clear they've written it themselves, but English is one of the most complicated languages to become proficient in writing that it is a very difficult endeavour for those who only use English to write their blog posts in. That would be about as bad as me trying to write a blog post in Hindi, or Dutch, or Afrikaans.  I only speak and read English, and I only write in English. I don't try to write in a language I have no proficiency in. Neither should you.<br /><br />Words count for AdSense, but they count in more ways than just numbers. Approvals and Adsense - What's Not Happening

And many times, that's not an easy question to answer, because the answers may not be based on a policy or standards.<br /><br />While this isn't "official" information, here's what some of the TCs in the AdSense forum have been noticing much more of over the last six months to a year.  Blogs and websites containing some subjects are not being approved, even though they might contain originally written articles.<br /><br />And to give a truthful answer, I'd have to say there isn't anything in the policies we can really point to and say "this is the problem" because the problem seems to be the subject matter the blog/website owner chose to write about. So, some of the most rejected blog contents we've noticed over the last year (in no particular order):<br /><br /><a name="more"></a><br /><ul><li><b>technology</b> - software reviews, gadgets, mobile technology, and any similar subject</li><li><b>blogging</b> - blogging tips, blog how-tos, blog coding etc.</li><li><b>online marketing</b> - make money online, how to earn money on line, sites built around affiliate contents</li><li><b>jobs, resumes</b> - sites listing job openings, job searches, resumes etc.</li><li><b>education</b> - sites containing educational papers, exam results, sample exams and questions etc.</li><li><b>coding and programming</b> - sites giving instructions on programming and programming languages, possibly because basic coding and programming languages aren't considered original contents.</li><li><b>health</b> - sites with widely general health information (much of it not sanctioned by health professionals) If you aren't a doctor or certified health professional, it's best not to write about it.</li><li><b>hollywood/bollywood gossip</b> - too many of those already, and most of them contain nothing new or different than the others, and also often contain a great deal of copyright infringing materials.</li><li><b>newspapers/aggregate sites</b> - almost none of these appear to contain original contents because they get their news from other news feeds, or pay to use contents from other news sites. Paying for it means it doesn't violate copyrights, but it's still not original and it still is duplicate contents.</li><li><b>wallpaper sites</b> - enough said; everyone knows what these are and nobody needs anymore of them. Almost none of these contain original contents of any kind.</li><li><b>facebook knock-offs </b>- sites that look like facebook; sites that use aggregated contents from facebook (statuses, likes, etc.). In the case of tech sites most of us are thinking that there are already results in the trillions for tech sites, many of which are already monetized. Most sites that review technology review the same things - even though they might actually write their own articles. You have to ask yourself, just how many reviews of the same mobile phone or tablet does the web really need? Search results for "tech reviews" return 1,010,000,000 results from Google search;  somewhat less from Bing, and 962,000,000 from Yahoo.<br /><br />If your site isn't on the first page of search results for your content keywords, you'll be down near the bottom of the pile providing similar contents to the big review sites, so this is a difficult area to break into, and one which Adsense doesn't appear to want any more of at the current time.<br /><br />Of course, things change because nothing ever stands-still but if you plan on applying for Adsense with a tech-related site, you may be disappointed. Unless your site is spectacular by Adsense standards, it would probably not be accepted. So, what is "spectacular" - that's one I honestly can't answer but unless your site is better than one of the top 10 or so in the world of techmology sites, it probably isn't going to be "spectacular" enough for Adsense right now.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQSObmFi5V0iMhEAim3T3uupDdcMu0fSjAXbarQmyM_30k2C2v7TFAmN9HAcKrBRDvqKOyDKyH1Ivqq4pAHOpo8tKC9JXYgpDCON5pSYRrZFa_i4EHOJUo32bl5ZRDu5mw-ckdIejliLE/s1600/Stickboy13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQSObmFi5V0iMhEAim3T3uupDdcMu0fSjAXbarQmyM_30k2C2v7TFAmN9HAcKrBRDvqKOyDKyH1Ivqq4pAHOpo8tKC9JXYgpDCON5pSYRrZFa_i4EHOJUo32bl5ZRDu5mw-ckdIejliLE/s200/Stickboy13.jpg" width="94" /></a></div>These sort of circumstances would cover sites with blogging contents - unless you can provide something unique and different than found on all the other "blogging tips" sites, you probably will have issues getting approved.<br /><br />Some of those subjects in the list actually do violate the program policies (ie: educational materials) and job sites usually end up containing duplicated contents because, let's face it, how many jobs are out there and where are all these sites getting their job listings? From the same newspapers, the same job boards, and the same human resources sites, making the contents unoriginal and really not that helpful or suitable for Adsense. Now, on the other hand, if you do own your own company that finds jobs for applicants, and finds applicants for jobs (ie: often known as "head-hunters") and you have jobs that nobody else has, you might have something original enough to get approved. Because it's free doesn't entitle you to have it. </span><br />Even free programs tend to come with some "strings" attached. <br />This one has guidelines and rules, and requirements for quality. If you don't meet those, you won't be approved. <br />And yes, they do have to approve you. <br />And no, they don't even have to tell you why they haven't approved you. <br />AdSense and Google are like any other business, or any other customer you may approach. They can choose to hire you or choose not to. They don't have to provide you with a reason. <br />Let's say you cut lawns for a living. When you knock on a person's door and offer to cut their lawn, they can say yes or no. If they say no, do you ask them why they said no? Unless you are really aggressive, you probably won't. You'll just move on to the next possible customer. <br />Why is AdSense any different then? Free doesn't necessarily mean "easy". <br />Every success comes from working hard. People seldom prosper by doing nothing. <br />If you want an account and haven't been able to get approved, there is help. The Help Center contains all the information you need. The Help Forum has a myriad of volunteers willing to help. <br />Just don't go into AdSense with an attitude of entitlement. Nobody is entitled to it.
